COLETTE: I think it is so important that people like you are out there teaching conscious entrepreneurs and spiritual entrepreneurs that it is ok to be abundant. There is nothing cool about making yourself small.
It has never been about being wealthy for me, it has always been about being in service.
In the beginning the idea of being successful wasn’t important to me. I, like many spiritual people in the spiritual world, I just wanted to be happy and joyous and living on a pink cloud. I had an issue about what it meant to charge money for my services. I started my work charging $20 a reading. I didn’t see my value at all in the beginning. I was coming from a place of scarcity.
It is important for me to talk about this because a lot people in the spiritual world feel that they shouldn’t charge for their service, feel they should give it away for free. Some people are “told” they should give it away for free because it is a “spiritual gift”. Over time I started to see my own value and study the Universal Laws of co-creation and manifestation. And there was no place that said that we should be poor by choice or give away our stuff. I had to get over my fear of being unworthy of being paid, that someone would take it away from me or that someone would be jealous of me.
I have a very successful brand, I have a very successful corporation. I have 6 employees that make good livings. And when people ask me how I can charge so much for my services, I say it is so I can pay my team and create free stuff for my fans. Most of what I earn is invested back into the business.
I don’t do what I do to make money. I am very successful without chasing the money. The minute I’m doing my work just for a paycheck, I take the day off. My success is a by product of my service. I do not push it away from me or think I am unworthy of it. I am very clear on passionate prosperity. My service helps reduce the suffering of others and is worth every penny that people pay for it.
I have also spent thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars on my own education. I am who I am today as a result of my life experiences and my investment in myself. So people are investing in themselves by choosing to come to me for knowledge, strength and hope; my courses, my classes, my trainings, my one on one coaching, my readings.
I remember when the president of Hay House told me I had to raise my rates. I thought I was going to throw up, because I thought people weren’t going to come anymore. He said I had to be at the same rate as the “other guys.” And I had to really ask myself why I would consider myself any less than someone else.
This conversation is crucial. If we can’t pay our own bills and if we cannot support ourselves, if I cannot live in a situation that is comfortable, then I am not going to be any good for you. If I can’t make enough money to pay my employees, then I can’t make free stuff for you. I am all about the service, not about the making of money. But as a consequence, I make a really good income. It enables me to be in a healthy environment so I can continue to create the products and services I have to give to other people.
If you want to grow a spiritual business, you have got to pull up your big girl pants and you have to face why you think you are unworthy of this and what your issues are around making money.
It took me years to be comfortable with where I am with pricing, I have been doing this for 27 years. Each step along the way I kept having to ask myself these questions…What is my value? What am I offering? And why am I offering it for this price? And how much is this worth? It is an uncomfortable conversation.
Money is impersonal, it is an energy. How do you want to use your energy to help others?
If you want to grow a business, it is an investment. We invested over $50,000 last year in ways to help us to help others. But we have to earn that to spend that.
What is crucial is the abundance mindset. That is where I come in, my book Uncharted teaches people how to see themselves with clarity and have a perspective on how they are co-creators in partnership with Spirit or in partnership with the quantum field. Once you can get the thinking in the right space and the believing and the sense of frequency that matches the reality that you want, the rest of it is gravy.
I just had a great conversation with Robert Holden about this. He talked about the not wanting, to not be attached to the form. If you want money, make sure you know why you want it. Be very clear in your head about why, then you are going to give yourself a reason to be successful.
As an entrepreneur it is very different from getting a pay check. You have to keep upping your game and you have to keep making sure that you are taking care of yourself. You need to keep studying, to keep knowing things, so you can give a really good service to your clients. And that is an investment in time, money and energy.
My success is not about me, it is about being in service.
Growing up, there was so much fear that there would not be enough, and that you had to be safe and money would make you safe. And no, that’s no it. Faith makes you safe, trust, and a consciousness of abundance and gratitude makes you safe. There is no such thing as an external condition that is going to make you safe.
I feel successful because I have a unique ability that is my own, and my personality is being used to help people and reduce suffering in the world. And that is why I think I am a success. My success is because I am sober, I have a great marriage, I have wonderful friends, I have self worth and dignity. I know I am making a difference in people’s lives and that is why I am a success.
The bottom line is know what your service is and give back. Trust that you have something unique and it is simple, the easiest thing you can do is “the thing”, it is not hard to figure out what you should be doing.
