Feng Shui Your Garden

It’s time to take advantage of the arrival of this new auspicious energy.  If you have used feng shui in your house and business then why not extend the principles to your garden and boost the energy here too.  Feng shui can be used in any space to improve the energy, be it a house, office or garden.

Gardening isn’t my favourite hobby, but now I know the benefits of using my feng shui knowledge in the garden I am starting to enjoy it a lot more.  Once I get started, I really enjoy working in the garden but the part I enjoy most, is relaxing and enjoying the view when it’s finished.

A beautiful colourful garden will create vibrant feng shui energy and counteract any negative energy before it enters your home.  It’s easy to tell if you have good feng shui by how you feel when you’re in your garden.  If you enjoy being in your garden and you think it looks beautiful, then the energy will be good.

Always keep your garden well maintained with the lawn mowed, trees trimmed, patios clean and borders weed-free.  Dispose of any rubbish or clutter.

LANDSCAPE
A very important thing to watch out for is, your garden landscape should be higher on the left of your house than the right, e.g. your garden should not slope down to the left.

As you stand in the front door threshold looking out, the left of your house represents the dragon and the right represents the tiger in feng shui.  When the bushes or trees are higher on the left side, this is great feng shui because the dragon is protecting you.  If the bushes or trees are higher on the right side of the door, then the dragon is asleep and the tiger is attacking you.

If you have a garden that slopes down at the back of your house, this isn’t ideal as you and your home have no support and the energy will drain away.  You can remedy this problem by lighting this area up with tall lights, or you can shine lights back up towards the house, being careful not to dazzle your neighbours.  You could also add a tall wooden fence and maybe some evergreen trees across the back of your garden to support you.

RIVERS & STREAMS
If you have a river or stream at the bottom of your garden, it is more beneficial if the stream flows left to right rather than right to left.

PATHWAYS
If you are redesigning your garden, choose curved pathways rather than straight paths.  Curving pathways allow the energy to gently flow along them creating great feng shui.  Straight lines are seldom found in nature, so curves blend in better with the environment.  Always keep your pathways clear so the energy can travel towards your home easily with no obstruction.

WATER FOUNTAINS & PONDS
The best feng shui sectors to place a fountain or pond are the North (career sector), East (family/health sector) and South East (wealth sector).  If you have a missing bagua area in any of these sectors of your home, placing a fountain outside in the missing area is the perfect remedy.  See image below of a missing area.

Outdoor water features are excellent feng shui, whether you choose a man-made pond, a waterfall or fountain, the water needs to be moving.  I personally prefer a bubbling fountain rather than pouring.  Also, it is better to have a fountain without lights, because you are mixing the fire and water element together.  Stagnant water or dirty water is bad feng shui, so the fountain must be kept clean and especially free from leaks. A leak in your fountain must be fixed immediately or it will cause a leak on your finances.

BUDDHAS
Buddhas are lovely to have in your garden but don’t place them on the ground as this disrespects the Buddha.  Place them on a surface, I have mine sitting on a large stone so he is sitting off the ground.  All the Buddhas in the photo below are sitting on a pedestal.

PLANTS
Bamboo is a great plant to have in your garden; it lifts the energy no matter where it is planted.  The bamboo represents wisdom and fidelity.  Avoid spiky plants or cactus type plants.  Plants with round fat leaves are the most auspicious type of plant to have indoors or outdoors.  If you fill your garden with lovely colourful plants all year round, this will look great and attract good energy too.

TREES
Ensure that you don’t have trees touching your house, otherwise, they will drain the house energy.  If you do, then trim them back as soon as possible. Don’t let your trees and bushed become overgrown, keep them trim and neat.  If you have trees at the back of your garden behind your house, this is great feng shui, because the trees are supporting you, but a tree positioned directly in front of your front door will stop the energy from entering.

OUTDOOR FIRES, BARBEQUES
The south sector is the best place to cook on your barbeque or light your fire pit.  You will stimulate the fire energy by doing this here.

OUTDOOR LIGHTING
You can light up any part of your garden with candles or lights making it feel inviting and it will add to the ambiance.  You can also use lighting to highlight special feature areas.  By adding lights to the south sector you will be activating the fire element which is great feng shui.

CHILDREN’S PLAY AREA
The west is a great area for a children’s play area because the west sector is connected to the energy of children and creativity.

GUTTERS & DRAINS
Check your gutters and drains regularly.  Blockages here would have a negative effect on your finances.

BINS
Bins should be kept away from seating areas; you want the energy in this area to be positive, not full of trash.  If possible keep your bins out of sight; you could place a screen around the bins to keep them out of sight.  It is also important to find out what Kua number you are.  You can do this by using the free Kua Calculator on the home page of my website http://www.sylviamorgan.com.  This will tell you what your four good directions are (e.g. Health, Success, Love, and Wisdom.  You can then ensure your bins aren’t placed in any of these good directions.
