When I feel like this, I get out the bin bags and start decluttering, this helps to remove any energy blocks and gets the business moving again, making space for new opportunities to come in. There’s no better time to have a clear out than the Chinese New Year. New Year = New Start.
Good feng shui in business starts with clearing your clutter. Office clutter is something that creeps up on us all, especially if you are overloaded with work. Clutter is simply ‘stuck energy’ (chi) with mental, physical and emotional side-effects.
Don’t just concentrate on decluttering your office; you need to get the energy moving in your home too. Sort out your wardrobes, kitchen cupboards, all your favorite places that you like to ‘hide’ things. 😉
Some people have their clutter on show, while others have it hidden away in desk drawers and cupboards. The favorite places seem to be in the attic or basement; out of sight, out of mind, that is until you need to find something, then chaos happens.
Excess clutter can clutter your mind. You can’t think straight; it takes twice as long to find something and you feel like your office is closing in on you. Does that sound familiar…? Clutter affects us all and I bet you didn’t realize just how much! Clutter attracts clutter; if you have a messy unorganized desk it becomes worse throughout the days and weeks. The clutter you have didn’t appear by magic and it has been added to over time.
The energy that enters the main door of your business or home should move around freely. This won’t happen if it runs into objects or heaps of clutter as clutter stops the natural flow causing blockages and a reluctance to progress in life and business. We can feel confused, tired, depressed, disorganized and can’t focus on any single task, stopping us from taking the business forward and blocking opportunities.
The North sector of your office or business in Feng Shui represents career, so it’s especially important to ensure this sector is organized and clutter free. The same for the South East sector; this represents wealth so you don’t want any energy blockages in this area either. 
If you feel that business has slowed down or stopped, have a big clear out and get things back in order. Start the energy moving again, then sit back and pay attention. A new unexpected business opportunity may arise, or the arrival of a check in the mail.
I suggest you take some bin bags and label them, set the timer for 15/20 minutes, just long enough for you to make a difference but not be overwhelmed. We can all spare 15/20 minutes. If you have two staplers or guillotines, pay one forward to someone who may need one. Throw away any broken items, or pens that don’t work. Put old files away safely in storage to make more space.
Energy is like oxygen, it’s all around us but we just can’t see it. Another great way to get that stuck energy moving is clapping. When you are cleaning your home or office, clap in the corners to get that stuck energy moving, just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean it isn’t there.

Don’t start de-cluttering and go at it like a bull in a china shop. You will soon get fed up with the mess around you and end up throwing it back into the cupboard and shutting the door, with no progress made.
1. Work out a plan.
2. Choose the first room, set a timer for 15-20 minutes; just long enough for you to make a difference.
3. Label 3 or 4 big bin bags.
- Bag 1 – Recycling Centre or Tip
Fill this bag with rubbish that’s no good to anyone. Anything you want to throw out, e.g. broken or chipped crockery. - Bag 2 – Charity Shop
Anything that is still in good condition that you no longer have a home for. - Bag 3 – Pay It Forward to a Friend
We all have possessions that are too good to just throw away, so maybe you know the perfect person or people who you could gift these things too.
- Bag 4 – Car Boot Sale You can have a Car Boot Sale bag if you wish, and earn yourself some extra cash. Maybe you could even sell some items on eBay. If you decide to use this option you must make a promise to yourself to actually do this, otherwise, you are not solving your clutter problem.
4. Sticking to the timer, sort out as many drawers and cupboards as you can within that timescale. Once the timer has gone off, you can dispose of the bags to their rightful places.
5. Repeat this process regularly; you will be amazed at how quickly you can see progress.
Keep taking small steps. I promise you, you will feel amazing when you can see the progress you’ve made.
